Advocacy

NALACC seeks to improve the quality of life for Latinos and Latino immigrants in their communities both in the United States and in countries of origin. We have developed policy platforms to address the necessity for broad and visionary changes in the way world leaders address the phenomenon of immigration.

We recognize that the obstacles which our communities face as they seek to improve their quality of life go far beyond the politics of immigration, representing larger manifestations of the political economy of the United States as well as that of migrant-sending countries.  Still, we also recognize that the basic injustices of our obsolete immigration laws impede the advancement of our communities in other important aspects of life, such as education, health, housing, and working conditions.  Therefore, NALACC has focused on bringing about just, intelligent, and long-lasting immigration reform in the United States, recognizing this advocacy work as central to our mission.

Quality of Life for Immigrant Communities in the US:

NALACC’s Domestic Platform lays out the key elements that any proposal for comprehensive reform should contain. To learn more, click here.

Quality of Life in Sending Countries:

NALACC’s Transnational Platform lays out the key elements of our policy agenda for confronting the root causes of migration. We recognize that poverty and lack of economic opportunities in Latin America are salient factors influencing more and more people to seek a better life in the United States. It is only through substantial advances improving quality of life and bringing renewed hope for the future that we could imagine a scenario, respectful of the basic rights of individuals, in which the pressure to migrate gradually decreases over time.
